Growing up in Jackson, Mississippi, Mark Koury understood the importance of helping others. The youngest of three boys, Mark was the first in his family to leave his home state when he enrolled at Catholic University. He says he found CUA “very welcoming and a great place to learn, although many of my friends were not used to my southern drawl.”
Now Mark is making Catholic a welcome place for others. He is a minister at “The House,” a live-in community of seventeen students that holds events on campus and provides spiritual guidance to other students. Mark spends two or three nights a week helping freshmen get adjusted to college life, promoting the mission of Catholic University, and providing opportunities for students to grow in their faith. “It’s an incredible time and an honor to be a part of this group,” he says.
Mark has always wanted to make a difference in the world, and he feels Catholic is providing “the best college experience you can have.” He is grateful for the generous scholarship assistance that allows him to participate in the CUA community. “Being at Catholic is shaping the life I’m going to live, and the caliber of education I’m getting here is awesome!”
Like so many talented students who attend Catholic University, Mark is doing his part to give back to the community and enjoy the world of possibilities at CUA.
