Michael P. Murphy '74 Memorial Golf Tournament and Dinner

Spring is here and that means that planning for the second annual Michael P. Murphy Memorial Golf Tournament and Dinner is underway. The golf tournament will be held on Friday, May 28, at the Casperkill Golf Club in Poughkeepsie. Dinner will follow at the Pirate Canoe Club located on the beautiful Hudson Rivern in Poughkeepsie. Please see the attached .pdf document for complete details.

Last year we rasied more than $23,000 at this event. Those funds were donated to the scholarship that was established several years ago in Mike's name through the Community Foundation of Dutchess County and for the building fund for a new Rathskeller at Catholic University that will be named for Mike.

Michael P. Murphy was an extraordinary person. He touched so many people's lives as a dedicated public servant by serving his constituents in the village of Millbrook, City of Poughkeepsie, Village of Port Chester, and the County of Dutchess. Mike passed away in 2007 at the age of 55 from cancer. We want to continue to honor his memory with a charity golf tournament to raise money for the scholarship and building fund. Catholic University in Washington, D.C., was Mike's alma mater. Catholic University held a special place in Mike's heart. He met his wife, Pat, at CUA, as well as many lifelong friends.

Please consider honoring Mike's memory by becoming a sponsor of the golf tournament. There are several levels of sponsorships available. They are as follows:

  • Platinum: $1,500 - You will receive a full-page ad in the program booklet, acknowledgement at the dinner, and the opportunity to speak at the dinner.

  • Gold: $1,000 - You will receive a half-page ad in the program booklet, and acknowledgement at the dinner.

  • Silver: $500 - You will receive a quarter-page in the program booklet.

  • Bronze: $150.00 hole sponsors -- You will also be listed in the back of the program booklet.

  • Under $150 -- You will be listed in the back of the program booklet.

The Community Fund and Catholic University are 501c 3 charities, therefore, your sponsorship will be tax deductible. Your generous sponsorship will permit us to raise as much money as possible to honor Mike. We will have a fun day of golf and a wonderful dinner to celebrate the day.

Please make your check payable to the Michael P. Murphy Charitable Fund and mail it to CUA. Please include with your check the name, phone number, and e-mail address of your contact person. We hope to do most of our communications next year electronically, so an e-mail address will be very helpful.

T
hank you again, and we look forward to seeing you on May 28, 2010.

Sincerely yours,

The Tournament Committee
