CUA Alumni Association Awards and Criteria

Alumni Achievement Awards
Annually the Alumni Association recognizes alumni from the various schools of the University who have excelled in their fields of endeavor.
Young Alumni Merit Award
Nominees must demonstrate high levels of professional achievement, leadership ability, potential for future leadership roles and a commitment to serving others. Nominees must have been alumni for no more than 15 years.
James Cardinal Gibbons Medal
The highest honor bestowed by the CUA Alumni Association, the Gibbons Medal recognizes an individual, who may or may not be a CUA alumnus, for distinguished and meritorious service to the Church, the nation, or The Catholic University of America.
George J. Quinn '50 Distinguished Service Award
Intended to recognize alumni who have given "conspicuous and meritorious service" to the CUA Alumni Association, the Quinn Award may be presented to no more than five alumni each year.
Frank A. Kuntz '07 Award
This honor recognizes the "unsung heroes" of CUA’s current staff or faculty whose efforts might otherwise go unrecognized.
Edward J. Pryzbyla '25 Award for the Support of CUA Athletics
Named in honor of the late Edward J. Pryzbyla, B.A. 1925, CUA’s most generous benefactor, this award recognizes those who have rendered extraordinary service and support to the CUA athletics program.
John E. Smathers '80, '84 Award
Named in honor of the late John E. Smathers, B.A. 1980, J.D. 1984. This award honors former or current student-athletes at CUA who have distinguished themselves in service to their community, university, profession, or country.
Athletics Hall of Fame
Located in the Raymond A. DuFour Athletic Center, the Hall of Fame honors former CUA athletes distinguished for their outstanding performance, leadership or coaching ability. Male nominees must be alumni for at least 20 years; women 15 years. Nominations are currently being sought for the 2014 induction ceremony.
